A hatvanas években egy különös rablás történt a Prado Múzeumban, óriási zavart okozva a rendőrség berkein belül. Bartolomé Esteban Murillo híres Inmaculadájának lába kélt egyik éjjel. Mindenféle nyomozás sikertelennek bizonyult, mivel az tapasztalt tolvajok nem hagytak nyomot maguk után. Ám néhány nappal az eset után egy névtelen bejelentő értesítette a múzeum kurátorát a festmény hollétéről. Egy ósdi, elhagyatott házban találták meg, tökéletes állapotban. Az eset nem került napfényre, a rablás kínos részleteiről mélyen hallgattak. A kép még most is ott látható a múzeum falán, mintha mi sem történt volna.

Mígnem…

Az Interpol lekapcsolt egy maffiózót, a nápolyi maffia neves tagját, aki az elmúlt évtizedben inkognitóban élt Marbellában. Öreg szíve nem bírta az izgalmakat, így a letartóztatása után rögtön kórházba kellett szállítani. Kicsivel a halála előtt vallomással lepte meg a nyomozókat. Elmesélte, hogy részt vett annak idején Murillo híres festményének elrablásában. A hóbortos, Madridban rejtőzködő nápolyi maffiózó eredeti terve szerint a valódi képet egy szinte tökéletes másolattal helyettesítették volna az éj leple alatt. Valami azonban balul sült el: rablás során felcserélték az igazi és a hamis művet. Menekülvén, a tolvajok hátrahagyták az egyik képet, hogy megtévesszék a biztonságiakat. De soha nem bizonyosodtak meg róla, hogy melyik képpel távoztak.

Ez a hír a napokban robbant ki a sajtóban. A Prado Múzeum sajtószóvívője szerint a festmény eredetiségvizsgálata hónapokat vehet igénybe. A nyomozóhatóság Fabrizio Ferri bandájának nyomába eredt, hogy fellelje az elrabolt képet. A különc maffiózó pedig ismét leszánta magát a lehetetlenre: be akar törni a múzeumba, hogy mindkét képet magáénak tudhassa. Az Inmaculadát azóta szigorúan őrzik.

A rendőrség és a maffia összecsapása várható hamarosan Madridban. De kié lesz az eredeti műalkotás?

En los años sesenta, un audaz robo realizado en el Museo del Prado dejó perpleja a la policía y los investigadores. La segunda versión de la Virgen Inmaculada pintada por el gran Bartolomé Esteban Murillo había desparecido sin dejar rastro durante la noche. Ninguna de las pesquisas produjo resultados. Los ladrones habían sido tan hábiles que no dejaron ninguna pista, ningún cabo suelto. Sin embargo, pocos días después, una llamada anónima le indicó a los conservadores del museo dónde se encontraba la pintura. La recuperaron en perfecto estado en el interior de una casa abandonada. La noticia no trascendió a los medios, para evitar la vergüenza del robo. Y la pintura siguió allí, donde todavía puede verse.

Pero…

Un antiguo miembro de la mafia napolitana, que había vivido en Marbella de incógnito durante la última década, fue capturado hace poco al ser reconocido por agentes de la Interpol. Su viejo corazón no pudo soportarlo y tras el arresto tuvo que ser internado de urgencia. Poco antes de morir, le contó a la policía que había participado en el robo del famoso cuadro de Murillo, planeado por un excéntrico mafioso napolitano que se ocultaba en Madrid. Para sorpresa de los agentes, les narró que el plan consistía en entrar al museo durante la noche y reemplazar la pintura por una copia casi perfecta para que nadie notara el cambio. No obstante, algo salió mal: durante el robo el original y la copia se confundieron. En su huída, los ladrones abandonaron una de las dos, para despistar a las autoridades. Pero nunca supieron con certeza si se habían llevado la obra correcta.

La noticia saltó a los medios de comunicación. El museo del Prado dice que el análisis del cuadro puede tardar meses. Las autoridades buscan a la banda de Fabrizio Ferri para recuperar la pintura robada. El extravagante mafioso está decidido a robar el Museo de nuevo, para quedarse con las dos versiones de su obra. que ahora se encuentra rodeado de fuertes medidas de seguridad.

In the 1960's, and audacious robery took place in the Prado Museum, puzzling the police and the inspectors. During the night, the second version of the Inmaculada, painted by the great Bartolomé Esteban Murillo, had disappeared without a trace. All inquiry was in vain. The thieves were cunning enough not to leave any trail, any clue behind. Nevertheless, some days later the curator of the museum received an anonymous call, indicating the locality of the painting. The officials found it in a perfect state in a spooky, old, abandoned house. This embarassing incident never appeared in the news; and the painting can be still seen, hanging where it always used to be.

But...

An old member of the Napolitan maffia, living incognito for the past decade in Marbella, was captured after having been discovered by agents of the Interpol. His old heart could not bear this excitement and he had to be taken to the hospital after his arrest. Just a few minutes before he died, he told the police that he had taken part in the robery of Murillo's famous picture, planned by an eccentric Napolitan mafioso who was hiding in Madrid in those times. He told the surprised agents that the original plan was to enter the museum at night and replace the painting with an almost perfectly identical copy, so that no one notices the exchange. Nonetheless, something went wrong: during the robery the original and the fake got confused. While escaping, the thieves left one of the two paintings behind, to mislead the authorities. But they never knew for sure if they obtained the right piece of art.

The case finally popped out in the media. The Prado Museum claims that the analysis of the picture could last for months. The authorities are looking for the gang of Fabrizio Ferri to get back the stolen painting. The extravagant mafioso decides to burgle the museum again to possess both pictures, even though the Inmaculada is being guarded by reinforced security.
